    All the science! I changed the DIC and plugs this weekend just to make sure it wasn't those before I fiddled with the fuel line. Vacuum hoses are all replaced as of last year with silicone.
    Got NGK -10s gapped at 0.9mm installed. Car runs a fair amount better, but cold starts are getting worse. Just thought I'd double check to make sure it wasn't something else.

    P.S. I only use Premium (Kwik Trip), but Ill try a different brand next time.

    Yeah, I'm over educated! Anyway, if you want to be sure before you change check valve, they are 2 ways. One, at cold start, cycle the key 2 or 3 times without starting to prime the system, then start the car. If it cranks fine, you know system is losing pressure after shutdown. Another way is to check the Schrader valve on the fuel rail behind the valve cover near an emissions valve. Has a black cap over it. At cold start, take cap off, depress needle and see if gas spurts out. If not, prime the system as described earlier. Check again, and if gas comes out, car should start. Poor man's fuel pressure gauge.

    So I tried the priming method you referred to the other day, didnt seem to help. How long am I supposed to wait before turning the key? I listen for all the things to stop activating, then I cycle usually.
    Secondly, can you link me to/post a picture of the Schrader valve? And I need two ppl to do this correct? One to start and one to depress needle?
    Finally, my Norsway obd scanners should be here tom, so I can pull codes again.

    Don't need 2 people to check at valve. Look behind valve cover towards throttle valve. Find fuel rail, silver pipe that feeds the injectors. FPR is at one end towards the brake booster. On the rail is a black cap, about in the middle, probably behind/under some emissions hose. Remove the cap, depress the needle with a screw driver or something suitable. Check before you even try to start at cold. If no pressure, check again after priming a few times. Pressure will hold. Priming is just turning the key to on, letting the fuel pump cycle on then stop. Then turn key off, repeat. Each time you will hear the pump cut on a few seconds then stop. It does that to make sure that there is sufficient fuel pressure for the system to operate.

    Well i had a 2003 9-5 that did this, it was a hard crank/ cold start issue. It would take longer than usual to crank, then it would catch, sputter and die... then on 2nd or third try it would start fine, idle and run fine for the rest of the day. Next morning, pretty much same thing. My tech and i tried all sorts of things, changed the pump, CPS, ect... but then he suggested to get it topped with fresh gas, added a bottle of dry gas and no issues since. Odd but it happens. 6 months later, the issue never came back.

    And is it widely available?

    it removes water from fuel and can be found nearly anywhere, wal-mart, autozone, ect.... $1.50 It may or may not work... but it seems to have fixed my issue.

    Dry gas removes water from the fuel. A brand that's widely available in the US is Heet.

    My 2005 9-5 had some difficulty starting a few years ago and a bottle of Heet worked very good.

    thanks for adding to this.... sometimes I feel when i tell the story of how drygas fixed it, I get looked at like im from Mars.
