What did you guys do to solve your coolant hose problem?

Every year I have to replace the coolant hoses that attach to the reservoir. Since they run over the top of the manifold, I assumed it was heat failure so I have tried using high temperature reinforced silicone, wrapped in radiant heat barrier. But still the problem persists nearly every spring. Surely I can't be the only one who suffers from this.

How have you solved the issue?

Could you be more specific on your car please? I have a 2011 9-5 Aero and the hoses don't run over the manifold but mine is a 2.0L and I suspect yours is a 2.8.

    Sorry, yes it's a 2.8L. I assumed all Aero's were the 2.8 variety (shows what I know).

The blue hose is new, and I did not yet wrap it with radiant barrier. I have actually downsized the hose from 5/16" ID to 1/4"ID since the fit wasn't great on the 5/16 causing me to overtighten the clamp.

The flexible sections are only there to allow for engine movement. I would be looking for something more robust such as a braded brake hose and the thermal wraping needs to also cover part of the rigid pipe.

With Saab all Aeros would have been 2.8 but GM never grasped the concept of a top of the range car with a specification to match. That said the 2.8 is only available in the UK as an automatic and I would want a manual, mine is manual.
