    2002 9-3 Alignment Issues

    GA SW,

    Installed Eibach springs and Koni shocks, took it in for an alignment to Firestone, they align it twice as car pulled to right both times after. Then they said they couldn't get it 100% straight as they didnt have a plate or something like that to adjust camber (IIRC).
    Anyone know what they are referring to?

    The odds of getting a 100% perfect four wheel alignment on any car, much less a 15 year old car are about the same as winning the lottery and every so often someone gets lucky. For the most part alignments are done to tolerance inside spec. and when it's done to tolerance cars don't pull to the left or right when they get off the rack. Most of the time alignments don't require parts, every now and then you need to add an alignment plate also called a shim. That a shop doesn't stock the perfect sized shim for every size car is no surprise, that Firestone would let you off the rack twice with your car pulling to the right is.

    @Digger,

    I feel like they don't care about me. I wish you had a shop!

    You might be amazed at how much they care after you tell the people at the white palace http://www.firestonecompleteautocare.com/contact/ that their people sent you down the road with a car pulling to the right because they were to lazy to charge you $50 for a $5 part and the labor to put it in.

    @Digger,

    My local Firestone shop just called and said they would refund my money (179.99) that I paid for the lifetime alignment service. Thank you so much! Now I can go to a specialty shop and get it done!

    Refund in place of doing the job right? sometimes a guy has to wonder. Maybe they couldn't find a part number for a Saab shim and don't see enough of these Saab's to know that Chevy shims will work. Or it could be a liability issue and the legal department won't let them put a Saturn part on a Saab. The best specialty alignment shop I know is only a 10 hour round trip drive from your location, but you did your own exhaust and I don't think you are going to need a specialty shop.

    If you got a nice color alignment print, the number in red will tell you how much shim you need and not counting time for rust stuck nuts, it takes about an hour to R&R a hub and fit the shim. Fitting a rear wheel shim finishes the alignment and if you didn't shim it upside down and backwards the alignment is done. If it still pulls to the right you will need to have the alignment checked and if the wheels are straight the pull is in steering or brakes.
