Life after Saab, is it even possible?
I just bought a used 2006 95 in gray. Absolutely stunning car despite 100k miles. Feels like a brand new car.
Unfortunately I am someone that always likes to think insanely far ahead, and that brings my question; what even are my options after owning such a well made and beautiful car? Do any other car brands even come close?

A used Saab 9-5 is great value for money. The quality declined a bit for 2006+ but it is a solid engine and transmission. With the right care and service, it should easily last another 100K miles.
But technology, design and quality continue to improve and evolve so there will always be the next best car. The 9-5 was close to $40K when new and there are a lot of other great choices in this sport-luxury segment.
I have driven the 2011 9-5 a few times and that would be a worthy successor to the first generation 9-5 you have now.

Life after Saab, is it even possible?
The 2011 is all I have been seeing as a feasible option a few years down the road.
All things considered timing chain instead of timing belt, all leather by default, tons of high end luxuries in every model, turbo, etc. Nothing seems to be as good as Saab when I consider all those factors.
I just wish Saab didn't die honestly. Most of my life I've been growing up with my family owning a 2004 95 Aero and now I have unrealistic expectations it seems..

Things can get better. Before my 2005 9-3 (2.0t, Linear), I had a 1990 900. Most things were better with the new model but a few things were better with the old. Likewise, the 2022 something else be better than the 2006 9-5, particularly as the 9-5 gets old and less reliable. One just has to wait to see what comes out in 2022. Could it be a VW, Audi, BMW, Jaguar, MINI, Mercedes, Volvo, Ford, Subaru, Acura, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan?

Currently is there really anything anyone has found that is similar in quality? the whole timing chain thing about Saabs is a huge thing that's important to me

I never owned a Volvo but that seems to be a good alternative to a Saab. Not sure what the quality of their engine and transmissions are and if they will last as long as the B235 in the Saab 9-5. The B235 is an old design going back many years and is considerd the last real Saab engine. They just don't make them like that anymore.

Had a couple of Volvo's over the years and was looking for a good used 2005 Volvo V70 wagon to replace my pickup truck when I found my 2006 9-3 Combi. Same transmission inside, different casing. First couple years of front wheel drive Volvo's ate transmissions like they were candy, it was their own software that killed the tranny and the first couple of years were a problem. Like Saab, Volvo's cost big to maintain when you need to hire parts programed to the car replaced. With your own Tech 2 and TIS, the Saab cost less to maintain. Volvo is still in business and very protective of their programing.
Back in the day when I got my first Volvo, before Ford and GM bought up these Swedish cars, the saying was if you want dependable buy a Volvo, if you want excitement buy a Saab. By mid 2000 I would say that given the + and - of Ford and GM influence that they were pretty close to equal and at this point in the race, if Volvo is still around 5 years from now it will probably still be what Saab would have been.

I wouldn't worry about it. If your Saab runs well, enjoy. You'll get another car when you need one that fits what you want/need.
