BSR PPC Tune Kit for SAAB NG95

Has anyone used the BSR PPC software tune kit for their SAAB 10-11 NG 9-5? If so, how was the install and resulting performance upgrade? Any tips or pros and cons? I checked out Map Tun website but they don't have the sw for the NG 95s.

Another related question: what is the difference between the MapTun stage 1 upgrade and its competitor BSR PPC stage 1 upgrade? Other than price.

    SAAB 9-3 II Aero 2.0T, SAAB NG 9-5 Aero XWD V6 2.8L
    Hi
I have BSR tuning stage 3 software on my SAAB 9-3 II Aero (2008 edition) - it is excellent, smooth, fast and lots of torque, highly recommended.
I also have a SAAB 9-5 NG 95 Aero V6 and have recently received the BSR PPC3 unit with stage 1 loaded and ready - unfortunately it will not recognise my current software, so I am presuming that my car was never uploaded with the software upgrade for this car, which I think was introduced a couple of years or so after the car was released. I will have to take the car to a SAAB specialist and get the software verified and updated before I can proceed.
With regards to Maptun vs. BSR for the SAAB 9-5 NG Aero V6 - they have similar HP increase, Maptun ever so slightly higher but pretty insignificant (Maptun 330HP vs BSR 325HP) - the real gain is the Torque, BSR gives far greater Torque increase (Maptun 470NM vs. BSR 513NM) and in my opinion is the way to go to get the best out of the car.

Dragon69 - what prep and configuration is required on the NG95 to implement the upgrade (assuming it recognized your firmware version)? I'm interested in the steps required (conntect to website download sw? take fuse 1 out, then fuse 2 out?, have trickle charger on or not?, turn ignition on then off then on?, etc. the sequence of steps needed). Looking at the maptun videos their product is pretty much plug and play within 10 mins.

As for the firmware update here is the link at saabcentral on the DIY way using a flash drive http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=602954. Could save you some $$$. I haven't tried it yet, but if I go to the BSR route I will have to do it sooner than later. I have had the 95 v6 only 3 weeks so just getting into customizing it.

Hi Dragon69 - How is the setup/configuration for the 9-5 NG to have the BSR sw installed (assuming it can read your firmware version)? I interested in what fuses need to be removed (if any), do you need a trickle charger connected?, what is the sequence (connect to website download sw then proceed to car?), turn on ignition turn off, basically the steps needed.
As for your software issue, go to the the saab central website and search on "U803 Update". This is a DIY download of 3 files onto a flash drive that updates the 10-11 NG 95 firmware. Could save you $$$ from going to the specialist. I, too, will have to do this if I go the BSR route - I have had my 95 V6 for only 3 weeks and have only just got to the customizing phase.

    Hi
I have had my 95 V6 for about 5 weeks, but have spent 3 years customising my 9-3 - need to sell it now, but am reluctant to let it go.

With BSR, once you get your PPC3 unit, you need to download 'PPC3 Sync' to a Computer or Laptop, they supply the download details - they also supply a log-on and password to use this. You then plug your PPC3 in to the Computer through a supplied USB lead - press SYNC and it will load the SW ready for use through this PPC3 Sync.

The BSR set up easy, just need a reasonably good/charged battery, no need for a charger and no fuses to remove - or anything else.
Plug the PPC3 in to the car's Diagnostic Connector (usually down under from the steering wheel and slightly protruding), put the ignition to position 2 (all electric on but engine off). Turn off everything, such as auto lights, audio system etc, and then off you go - following the simple instructions on the PPC3.

Once completed, disconnect and then re-connect back to your Computer and do a final sync through the PPC3 Sync facility. This then registers everything on the website, where you have all your details and history stored - along with the warranty

The whole process is very quick - from start to finish in about 20 to 30 minutes.

Any problems, you can just plug the PPC3 back to your car and it has the option to revert back to original SW - which you can change back and reload again as many times as you want. Any SW changes or updates, BSR notify you and you update by following the whole process again, and this will ensure you always have the most updated SW available from them.

TBH, this works great in my older 9-3 Aero, but this NG 9-5 is a bit of an unknown - so I am hoping it works just as well, which if it does then the extra Torque will just blow you away. If I can not resolve the ECU SW issues, then I will go to Maptun - but my preference is BSR for the Torque.

Thanks for the U803 details - I will take a look, but not sure this will do it because it is an ECU SW download which is unlikely to work without using the Saab tech stuff that only specialist garages have.

It's not the Navigation/Infotainment firmware I need, have already updated this to E800, which should be the correct one for the UK.
It is the ECU software upgrade that was introduced in 2011, unfortunately my car was built and released before it was rolled out and has never had the update.

My 95 is a 2010, so I will probably need the ECU sw upgrade, too. Thanks for the good insight into the BSR. Let us know when you get it installed.

You car may already have it - many cars were updated when put in for service visits, the only way to find out is to take it to a Saab service garage and get them to check that it has the latest SW. Simple enough for them to do, if they have the right equipment for the NG 9-5 - many garages in the UK do not have the capability, they only have the older Tech2 equipment which does not fully work on our NG cars.
