There is the key fob and the key inside the key fob and the key inside the fob you can get copied by any good locksmith and a good number of hardware stores now have machines that can copy the Saab key. The key fob with key blank can be bought from a dozen different suppliers for as many different prices, for this Google is your go to.

Getting the fob programed to the car requires a factory tool and security programing access. Google Saab service for your area and get this done before something happens to your only fob. Expect to spend a couple hundred give or take for programing, here again you should shop for price. If you're going to self maintain, getting your own tool with software will save you a ton of money in the long run. But it takes time to get a tool, get the software working with the tool and once you have what you need, you still need to learn how to use it. Adding a fob to the car is easy to do when you have a good working one to start with, loose or break that one good fob and the cost of keys for the car instantly goes from the couple hundred to the you've got to be kidding price.

Great info, Digger. Does the Saab have a hard key start option? My Kia has a spot in the glove box wherein the metal key inside the fob can be inserted to start the car in case of fob failure.

No such luck with Saab, hard key only opens door when remote entry decides not to work.
