Need a new ECU - Compatibility

Long story short, cylinder 2 misfires and injector circuit CEL: plugs, coils, injectors are fine. So, hooray for me, I need a new control module.

The car: 2008 9-3 Aero SportCombi manual transmission.

A wrecker that's not too far away has the module from an 2007 Aero, automatic. Does it matter that the donor car is automatic? Also, what else should I keep in mind? I know I'll have to get it programmed to the car, but do I need to make sure that it's divorced from the donor car? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

the ECU must, like you've said, divorced prior taking out from the car, the software version is likely even important for a good compatible. you can compare the # on the box but thinking with a tech II you can at least change the settings inside.

The ecu from a v6 is not that complicated. All you need to do is have the dealer program it. The only difference between an ecu on an 06-09 v6 is if your 08 was a turbo x cause it's a different variant code for the more horsepower and saddle tank on v6 and an 09 is the same but there was no xwd in 07 so your fine on that. I'm the service director of park ave Saab and have been a Saab tech since 2002. We do these swaps all the time cause they go bad like crazy

Thanks! It's not a Turbo X, so I should be good. "Fortunately", the former Saab dealer in London, ON no longer does Tech 2, so I've got to tow it out of town (super fun). What's the divorce procedure for the used ECU? I'm sure that they just pull it from the vehicle. Do I just grab the VIN from the donor vehicle and bring it for programming?

You don't need to do any of that. There is no divorcing of the ecu. Divorce really only applies to the radios on the earlier cars. After 2003 Saab uses security access from ''tis to web to regulate the swapping of components. Meaning really only dealers or someone with access to ''tis to web" could program this for you

Perfect, thanks! It's been hard to source this information as there are conflicting things online. I assume that once the used ECU is installed, the engine simply won't start until programmed by Tech 2 with TIS to Web?

I've seen lots of preprogrammed units online for the T7 system, but it doesn't seem possible with the T8.

Made the 4 hour round trip to get the ECU from the wrecker. Now I'm awaiting the call from my shop that will tell me that no one in town can program it and I'l have to tow it to the nearest Saab centre, which is 100 km away.
