    '04 9-3: how to replace low-beam?

The guy at oil can Henry/Valvoline couldn't figure out how to get the housing out to do it..they had the bulb. Is there a how-to on this procedure I can show them?

    Thank you!

You should be able to tell just by looking at them. Factory xenons will do a leveling check when you start the car (you'll see your lamps do an up-down sweep if you're parked in front of a wall/garage). Barring that, you can decode your VIN here:

After you input your VIN, click on the "Equipment" tab and it should be listed under "Exterior" near the bottom.

Just did mine last weekend. Found a you tube video. On the driver side I removed the battery vent, the filler neck for the wiper fluid box and moved a electrical box which was fastened to the side of the battery box. On the passenger side I was able to get my hand on the backside of the light assembly and access the bulb. After visiting my local NAPA auto parts store I found out they wanted $100.00 USD for just one bulb, I just couldn't buy it.

In talking with counter jockey, he said he use to own a 2006 93 same as mine. He went on to say that replacing the bulbs is much easier when you remove the front bumper cover to access the screw holding the light assembly to the car. Boy was he right :-)

There are three screws in both wheel wells, three screws under the bumper cover and six push pin fasteners across the top of the bumper inside the engine bay. Note: with these fasteners you can just push the center pin through the fasteners and catch them below with your hand. They are reusable. Next you have remove three bolts on each of the light assembly.

My low beam light bulbs were of the HID variety and they had a slight blue hue to them. Turns out they I needed HID 35w 6000k bulbs if I wanted to stay consistent with the ones I had. The k in 6000k refers to kelvin (a heat rating). 3500k is a more white light, 6000k is light blue and 8000k or greater turns the light purple.

I bought two 6000k because i didn't want to do this again in four months. Minnesota gets pretty cold in February-burrrrr!

I bought a two pack of bulbs on Amazon for....get this....$17.00 USD. The reviews seemed solid I took a chance and bought them. I also bought the little daytime running light too as they were burnt out as well.

After installation to started the vehicle and my passenger low beam flickered for a few seconds and went out. So the switched the igniters from passenger side to drivers side and visa versa. Started the vehicle and everything worked just fine.

It's been a full week know and everything is still okay.

Hope this helps and good luck. Overall a pretty simple task with a little patience. Go you tube if you need a visual.
