    Replace MY05 9-5 Key

I lost one of my keys. Called my shop, $250 to get a new blank and pair it with the car. Sound right?

Even worse, I lost a nice little keychain that's not on the market anymore.

Haven't seen Saab keys on the rack of any hardware store near me that cuts security keys and when the people who sell the blanks make a bad copy, they make another no extra charge. When you buy a blank off the net and bring it in for a custom cut, if it doesn't work the first time you buy another blank and pay for another cut. Once cut it needs to be matched to the car, if your aftermarket low cost fob doesn't work, you eat the service charge and start all over.

The place that gave you this price is betting that everything works the first time and adding some profit to the job. Depending on shop rates in your part of the country, this could be a little high, or it could be a real deal and there is a lot to be said for one stop shopping.

Price sounds about right. When I did it for my 9-5, I ordered the key pre-cut to my VIN, and then married to the car with my other key.

For my 97 900, I ordered a blank and opted to have it cut by a locksmith. It was a laser cut similar to my 9-5. It worked, but it would have been cheaper to have it cut to the VIN.
