Convertible Top Not Fully Functional---- Tech 2 ?

    Hi all,

The top on my '04 does not function fully. I can manually operate it or trick it into doing what I want for now. Already had it on the tech2 and did a test on the hydraulic pump. It failed the test (needed to draw 17.5 amps to pass but it didn't.) I replaced the impeller (It looked fine when I got to it) New impeller didn't make a difference.

If anyone is familiar with the tech2 and has used it to diagnose top malfunctions, I'm hoping you could point me in the right direction. As of now I'm still just getting familiar with the operation of the top, poke and hope...

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Joe,

When it comes to making top adjustments, the tech 2 is about as useful as a rubber wrench. You replaced an impellor so you probably know something about pressure switches, leaky seals and chasing bubbles in hydraulic lines, but if your problem is up in the header you will also need to know a little something about auto upholstery. If you don't have a copy of the WIS and you want to do your own top work, you will need to get your hands on one. The top / boot section gives you a step by step of how this things works, which pressure switch controls what, where they are, how the inner liner is held to the header and has way to many images to copy and post.

Thanks for the advice and resources guys. I've been meaning to download WIS for awhile, no time like the present lol.

I've been talking to people with more experience than myself and I'm confident I'll get this in time. If I try to fully close the top, it struggles and fails before the first bow locks, yet if I reverse the pump and open it a bit then go back to closing it will operate perfectly. I'm suspecting air in a line but that's just a hunch. It should get interesting.

Thanks Again for the Responses they are Much Appreciated !!!

    Joe
