Saab Heritage Museum USA
Some of you may be familiar with Tom Donney's efforts to establish a Saab Mueum in Sturgis, South Dakota. News, updates, pictures and videos are primarily shared on Facebook so I thought it would be a good idea to share some of that here as well.
They bought many cars of the Saab USA Heritage Collection after the Saab bankruptcy. It is great to see these and other Saabs will be preserved in a non-profit organization.

Pictures from October 2.
The Viggen that unfortunately hit a deer on its way to Sturgis.
Anyone have a nice 1999 SAAB Viggen for sale??? We lost ours last week with a deer hit in Minnesota heading to Sturgis museum. Looking to replace it with a really nice car and use the one we had as a display showing the safety features of a Saab.
Update.... within minutes of this post Jerry Danner of Mile Hi Saab in Denver has just offered to fix this Viggen as a donation to the Museum. This is incredible offer Jerry! This becomes a “No Brainer” now!

Join fellow SAAB enthusiasts for another “cattle drive” to transport some of Tom Donney’s collection to the SAAB Heritage Car Museum USA in Sturgis, South Dakota, a legit 501c3 non profit organization. This may translate into a tax deductible contribution for you, and you may also want to look into any corporate charitable match available through your employer! Volunteers are an ongoing need as the museum gets up and running. So even if you can’t make this trip, reach out, stay in touch, and be a part of preserving SAAB history!
The next time we hit the trail will be between October 19th and 21st, returning Sunday the 22nd.
You can mosey on up to rope yourself a fine SAAB in Fort Dodge, Iowa any day between Wednesday the 19th and Saturday the 21st, and hit the trail whenever you like. It’s about a 9 hour drive including stops. Tom will take care of fuel. Drivers can head out on their own, or as a wagon train, depending on your schedules.
There’s room to sleep at Tom's place in Iowa if you want to arrive a day ahead. Bring a bed roll to camp out in the museum once you arrive, or make plans at a hotel In Sturgis so you can rest up after a long day in the saddle. Tom has room to drive 6 people back to get your cars in Iowa on Sunday the 22nd.
To volunteer for this or future trips, PM Tom Donney, or you can text or call him at (515) 368-7222.

Ouch, the deer hit. Those with a Saab should think carefully before insuring their cars other than liability. If you are in a minor collision, you risk the insurance company declaring your car as totaled. Even a 2008 Saab 9-3 is not worth very much now.

Article by Hemmings published today:

There have always been fine private collections of Saabs in the USA, but as far as we know–unlike in this automaker’s home country–there’s never before been a large-scale American museum, open to the public, whose core mission involves the preservation and display of Saab cars. Noted Saab collector and racer Tom Donney is in the process of changing that, with important help from key players in the Saab USA world.

It looks like it is coming along nicely and they have more Saabs than I thought they would have.
Hopefully the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally will bring in some people but not sure if bikers are interested in Swedish cars.
