03-06 offered nav, 07 up also offered nav, if you're thinking about adding nav to an 03-06, shopping the salvage auctions and getting the whole well crunched car cost less than buying all what you need to fit the hole in the dash and upgrade.

Here is more information about the 2003-2006 navigation system: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?...ll=1#post40680

The head unit is integrated with everything else in the car and uses fiber-optics to communicate with most components. Technically very interesting but expensive and very difficult to use aftermarket head units for navigation/audio. http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=25524

I think the story is GM wanted Saab to use one the existing GM systems for the 2003-2006 9-3 but the Saab team in Trollhattan completely ignored that and developed their own using fiber-optics. And they spend a lot of time and money in doing so.

Make sure it works before you pull it from the donor car and divorce it before you pull it or you will have a heck of a time getting it to work again.

Except to say that the radio works when I turn it ON, I've got nothing good to say about the intigrated infotainment system in my sportcombi and I gave serious thought to harvesting a nav system from a smashed Saab to get something that would display useful information on the SID. After looking into what the swap would entail and what I would have when done, I opted for a TomTom.

I've found that Bluetooth is useful but, for me, GPS is not used often. So infrequently, that a map, online map, or smartphone is a useful substitute. I have a Garmin GPS that I haven't used in more than a year. I no longer keep it in the car. Eventually, the GPS battery will go bad and not recharge.

Also appreciated are airbags, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and intermittent wipers. Not so much used are fog lights and cruise control. When I eventually have a car with a rear camera, I think I will start to back into spaces often.
