    Sebastian,
How can I help you? What is most difficult to you in this project?
You should be able to do this in one weekend by yourself even you are not good in electronic things

I would think that a buck bought (Bucktoot https://www.leddynamics.com/bucktoot-7027) or built could be used there as well and would ensure LED survivability.
I have fixed the 3rd brake light by replacing all the LEDs - 24 of those and added Bucktoot on the power line - never ever issues there again and all for 15 Euros or so.
I will be fixing tail LED bar soon with some other LEDs with a bit more directivity and bit more DC current - 50 mA and will post the results when done.

Also to add, aside of gaskets - true, they also need to be exchanged, but a good solution is to apply Plastik 70 ( https://uk.farnell.com/kontakt-chemi...0ml/dp/2142396 ) on all the PCB elements and connections and also on the back of the LEDs and in general all the solder points. This will protect it from humidity and make it last forever.

Hi Guys, just to let You know in most cases there is no need to purchase this overpriced kit, usually the genuine circuit board is perfectly fine and there is a matter to replace only some of the led's .Also sometimes if one pair of led's (they are in pairs of 2 in each board 1 left 2 middle and 1 right) fail both of them then the whole light bar dim down so if You replace them then the rest could be in fully working state(that was my case for example, left pair of diodes was burnt, middle right top was off and the rest of them very dim, so i cutted left side and soldered new pair(2) of diodes and viola connected to 12v 3a DC supply whole bar very bright and that middle non working diode woke up too ). Led ultra bright chips or diodes are extremely cheap. If the circuit board fail then You can use dc-dc step down converter (buck) to get voltage from 12v down to Your led diodes (2,2-3v)Its easier and more stable output than just resistors i think .Also remember start cutting from side of bar fully not lighting first , also once Job done replace foam seals(thick foam seal ) and spray pcb with clear varnish or specialist pcb spray (servisol 60) if You would like to be more fancy.Glue all cuts with sanitary silicone(easier later to remove if needed) Good Luck and All the Best from UK

I have read varying opinions on the light bar problem, some say the LEDs fail others that the driver circuit is the problem. My LEDs are dim so I plan, as a first step, to remove the driver circuit board and install a voltage regulator with appropriate resistors. I am not sure as yet whether I will install one or two regulator boards but as they are about 1.25 each and I had to order eight of them that can be decided once I have the parts. If that works I'll leave the diodes alone, if not I have some super bright LEDs that I can use.

For those unaware of the construction, there are two fibreoptic type diffusers each side of the Saab badge each of which is illuminated by an LED at each end. Thus two LEDs at the outboard ends and two at the inboard ends. The LEDs at each location are wired in series so if one fails both will be extinguished. The original circuit board seems over complicated for the job, particularly as radbis has simply used resistors.

I have spent part of yesterday (8th April) and a couple of hours this morning fixing my light bar.
The good news was that the diodes were mostly fine, I may need to replace a couple later, and thus I was able to simply arrange a new power supply. After two failed boards I finally found one of the eight that worked as advertised and I installed that inside the light bar. The light bar is much brighter and the number/license plate lights work as expected too.

The bad news is that the original circuit board is also part of the license plate light circuit so either it stays in place or the two black wires in the three pole connector to the board need to be shorted together, if you don't the license plate light doesn't work.

I'll write this up properly in the Garage but there aren't many pictures as I didn't take any.
