    2003 Vector manual transmission issue

    Hi everyone,

New to the saab world both in terms of cars and the forum. I picked up a 2003 93 vector last week. Runs pretty good, but that is only if I hold the clutch in. As soon as I let the clutch out in neutral it makes a pretty horrible noise and wants to stall. The car will lurch forward a couple feet in 2nd gear, but only if I give it an excessive amount of gas. I am trying to figure out whether I need to simply adjust the cables, or if I need to find a new transmission, and if that is the case, will any 6 speed manual transmission work in a vector? Currently downloading the WIS to attempt the shifter adjustment I keep seeing mentioned on other threads. Also, The previous owner said it shifted fine until he tried to float the gears Hoping he just seriously messed up the cables, but I got the car for next to nothing, so if a transmission is needed I wont be devastated. I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Darren

The 6 speed manual is a GM F40 transaxel and you can get these out of donor Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Opel, Fiat cars but you might need to change bell housing, easy to get apart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msZDziEfU3o easy to check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5U_jPHF3Ps and lots of Chevy Cobalt tranny blows while racing story's to give you an idea if you will replace or repair.

    Update:

I replaced the transmission with a unit out of a 2007 93 so I could get the updated gear ratios. Also replaced flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and TOB. Went fairly well, and she is up and running. I will post pictures once it is detailed. I opted out a transmission from a pontiac because my bell housing had a hole in it, and I wasn't sure if I would need to swap it or not.
