There is a way to safely test the DIC, but you need to have or make the test cable and you must have a diagnostic tool like the Tech 2 that will allow you to run the DIC test.

Thank you Mike! Is there a way to check an individual coil in the DIC?

Thanks Digger! I don't have tech II tool, but is there a way to check individual coil in DIC since my code says misfire in cylinder #2?

The individual coils in the DIC can't be replaced or repaired so you would have to get a new DIC anyways. So there really is no use trying to figure out which coil failed.

Nordwulf, thank you for the advice. I'll check other potential causes of cylinder # 2 misfire. By eliminating them I can then set about getting new DIC. Dave

There is a way to test for spark without the tool, but it won't driver a marginal coil hard enough to prove a misfire. Swap plug 2 with the #1 position, swap fuel injector 2 with #3, drive the car and if the misfire moves you know it's not the DIC.
