Sports Mode problem

I have a 2007 2.3t 9-5 Aero sedan that goes into Sports mode every-time I start it. If I put it into Drive then back into Reverse and back into Drive it comes out of Sports mode. The S button on top of gear shifter has no effect at all no matter when I press it. Car has 112,000 miles this happens always at startup the car can be cold or hot. Anyone got any ideas why this it happening ?

Best guess is bad wire at the shift lever base, or rubbing against counsel innards.

Thanks sounds like a good possibility . Need to fined out how to get into gear shifter.
