Hi beam problem. I think I am not the only one
Hi gang. It appears as if high beam problems are not uncommon at all on 9-5s. Before I posted, I read through 7 different threads and found no solution for my problem.
Part of the problem is that I might not even understand still how these lights work. But.. Here's a summary...
2003 9-5 Aero.
*Low beams work fine. Need adjustment maybe, but fine.
*Hi beams don't work. Blue indicator on display does.
*When I apply hi beams, the low beams change, that is they shine more upward.
*When I move stalk to hi beam a distinct click is heard from light area.
*I don't see the infamous orange relay under the hood onlybeige relays or black ones. One orange 40A fuse
*I have interchanged fuses and relays for high beam and low beams and no change. Fuses relays are good
*the bulbs in the high beam socket that are held in by the clip are the correct H-7s shown in manual.
I tested them and they are fine.
*fogs work fine.
* I am not sure if I have xenon's HIDs halogens or what. So I included a diagram of my car lights..I think HIDs.
Digger and Nordwulf were able to help some of the other guys, I don't live anywhere near you guys so I can't come over with pizza and brewskees but between you and the other Saab brains, maybe me and my car are still not beyond help.
Thanks

Try swapping the low and high beam relays 4 & 5 under the hood and while you have them out clean contacts.

Good morning and hello Digger thank you for your reply. I did swap out the high and low relays. They were cream colored and 30 amp. Hopefully there are some others because that does not work. I was hopeful but the low beam still worked and the high beams didn't. Sprayed all with car Electronics cleaner. So it appears the relays are fine. What should I try next I wonder. I could always only drive during the daytime...

The DICE runs the lights, levels the lights and even washes the lights if you have those options. If it's not the relays, fuses, switches, wires, or bulbs, it's the DICE and the DICE is programmable.

I suspect that the fact that the low-beams seem to give you more light when you select High indicates that you have HIDs with active shutters that cut off the top of the beam when Low beam is selected.
Also the exploded diagram, if definitely applicable to the car in question, shows an HID bulb (@#25)
