Sounds like you're on top of things. My next guess is your head unit just went bad and needs to be replaced with a working one. They can be found for not much money on eBay.

If you do get a replacement, make sure it was divorced with Tech2 from the donor vehicle. And it will have to be married to your car with Tech2.

Or you can open up your head unit and see if there is anything going on inside, loose connectors and such. More details here: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=28000

Thanks for confirming that my steps were correct towards diagnosis.
I looked on EBay and up to now I found no units that were properly divorced from donor vehicle. Hopefully one comes along in UK, will work and there will be no parasitic battery drain.
I will take radio apart to see if anything obvious is broken/disconnected. I am stranger to electronics but have nothing to lose doing this.
I think I watched the video possibly from the guy in your link, taking apart his radio to repair broken solder for aux that he installed previously.
    Thanks again.
PS. Will continue looking on eBay for a properly divorced unit.
If I find one in different collour could I reuse my original front?

Do i have to divorce my non-working radio first before marying new radio?
Or can i just marry new radio without divorsing old radio?
    (Off course with Tech2)

    my radio Pioneer FX-M2017ZSA
    ebay Radio Pioneer FX-M2016ZSA
All other numbers are the same.
Is there any difference as my is 17 and eBay 16?

Gentlemen, er...ladies, any last comment on my final questions?
And just to wrap it up, I had parasitic battery drain. I have spent time testing fuses, earthing cables, components.
One result leading to new problem, new test.
PBD stopped completely after I unplugged the radio.
At the moment I am trying to source new original radio, but practically all were removed without divorcing it with Tech2.
If I ever source one and install it i will be able to confirm if problem of PBD was in the radio or component further down the line that radio connect to?
Thank you to NORDWULF for replys and patience.

You can replace parts of the head unit and just keep the part from your current head unit that is married to your car. I found information about this in this thread on another site: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=256013

There also should be a way to use an un-divorced radio and marry it to your car if you know the VIN of the donor car but I don't have any experience with that: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=29650

Before disconnecting my radio (it didnít work anyway) my battery draw was 300mA. Now I noticed it is still 100mA. Way too much, that means car will not start on 2nd day.
Thanks to earlier post re using Vin number to divorce/marry radios. Will have a word with my mechanic first, but it also means it will be easier to source new replacement radio.

After few weeks I had my few month old battery tested. The result surprised me as it was showing faulty.
As the battery wander warranty I had it replaced free of charge.
I must say that the beloved Saab performs great.
The radio is removed as it duos this work and draws heavily on battery.
Looking for replacement radio. My mechanic said it needs to be properly divorced from donor car. Itís practically impossible to find.
The idea that he can divorce donor radio by installing it into my Saab and using VIN number
    does not wash with him.
