    timing belt change interval

I am looking at possibly buying a Saab 9-5NG (most likely the 2.0T). I have been trying to find info on the timing belt renewal intervals.

Can't really find it. So, anyone can comment on that? Sorry if this is a very redundant "newbie" question, but I've used the search function here as well to no avail.

Any other things to pay attention to (except for the known taillight bar, the dash buttons etc)?

Goeiedag Jelger, welkom op het SaabWorld forum.

The 2.0T and 2.8T engines have a timing chain, not a belt. I am not sure if there is a recommended renewal on the chain but I wouldn't worry about it as long as it doesn't make any excessive noise or causing other problems.

    Ah, thanks! That figures
I assumed that the engines for the 9-5NG would have progressed to a belt. I am of course known and experienced with the chained blocks, as any serious Saab driver .
Thanks. Then at least I don't have to check when the last change was done when I am checking out a candidate (I am eyeing a few).

Some see belts as progress but I'm not sure I agree, with a properly specified chain and sprockets, the old way is actually the best and most reliable.

Didn't mean progress in a literal "progress" sense. I prefer the chain myself.

agree with you, chain is more reliable ..but belts are made for earning money for brand workshops it's the most expensive repair made in a regular manner ..

At least GM seems to have found a way to get chained engines going to the workshop as well: guides from plastic, just so they start to degrade/break down at around 130k km / 80k miles.
