    2004 Saab 9-3 - several problems

Ugh.... Where do I start?? I need help!!!! So let me give u a run down on my car it's a 2004 9-5 turbo it looks great,,, everything is messing up!!! It was really cheap and I loved the way it looked.. Keep in mind I'm a single mom so cheap fixes is what I need...it has problems...but I love it and don't wanna blow it up
    1. You can't take the key out.. If you do it will not move out of lock when put back in
    2. My radio and blinker there is no sound.. I read up on this and tried to bypass it without the amp.. The optical wire under my seat will blink red.. I also have the same wires in my trunk but they don't light up... Is there an easy fix
    3. When I'm on the highway the car starts to putt and it's hard to pick up speed
    4. My screen on top of the dash only works sometimes
    5. It says my emergency break is on and I can't figure out how to get it all the way down the bottom is off and a wire is hanging out
6.when I turn on my air or heat nothing is napping
Please someone help me!!! Especially with the radio I can't live without a radio

It sounds there are a lot of separate issues with your car. A 14-year old European luxury car can turn into a money pit quickly when you can't do most of the repairs and service yourself. Unless you want to spend days/weeks/months and learn about the Saab 9-5 and do the repairs yourself, it appears to be better to take your 9-5 to a Saab service center or specialist and get a quote from them. But it will not be cheap.

    2. Not sure what you're trying to bypass. Does the radio turn on at all? The 9-5 does not have an optical wiring system so not sure what's blinking red.

    3. Possible turbo failure but can be many things

    4. Could be as simple as needing a new SID (Saab Information Display) unit

    6. Test the ACC and see what codes come up: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=28199

What's the engine in your car? 4 or 6 cylinder? 2.3t or 2.3T?

While we all enjoy some music while driving, I think the radio not working is the least of the problems with your 9-5.

liverkelly: Please listen to nordwulf and take his advice seriously. Not only is he an Administrator on this board, but he has a lot of experience with Saabs and is very helpful. Perhaps someone who posts here and lives in Cincinnati can help steer in the direction of a decent Saab mechanic. Best of luck.

    1. If this is the 9-3 key fob this should help with your key issue and it is a cheap DIY fix https://www.saabcentral.com/forums/s...d.php?t=219388 and it might even help with the radio and climate control issue.

    2. Sometimes best to check all fuses front and rear electrical centers before pulling cables. Could also be ignition switch related

    3. Could be a turbo failure, could also be a catalytic converter going bad and could also be several other things. Single mom's don't usually have the tools to check this stuff and sometimes you need to visit the mechanic.

    4. Could be a flaky SID, could also be ignition switch related. Don't spend a dime on the SID until after you clean or replace the switch module. Cruddy contacts happen when stuff gets into the big hole and cruddy contacts can cause strange problems.

    5. Go to the first sticky in the tech talk section and get a copy of the WIS. You will probably need some good used parts http://car-part.com/ find a good used parts source in your area and talk to the counter people as they might know a good mechanic in your area if you can't do some of this work yourself.

    6. Check your fuses and if you don't find a bad fuse follow the WIS trouble isolation guide and it will eventually get you where you need to go.

If the ignition switch doesn't do the job and you don't find a bad fuse that fixes the radio, you will be going to the local Saab specialist as you need security access to the car computer network to fix the radio and all the other stuff you can't fix with fuses and switches.
