    You probably will be right.
But how do you come to this conclusion given there are two B235E engines on this darn list:

Is the list perhaps incorrect and the 170hp engine was made until 2000 only and not in 2001 as well ?

As Geoff said the t or T on the back of the car means the turbo Type so you know what's inside

If I'm not mistaken, for 2001 the "E" engine was about 185HP and the "R" was 230 HP. Or maybe 220 HP.

    Gents,
it seems I'm too stupid to explain the problem. I know it's the "E" and I know it's the lower case "t".
And now there is this list at the top of this page and a full version at http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=27622 showing TWO engines matching these criteria !
    How does one tell whether it's the 2001 "E" & "t" with either 170 or 185 hp ?

Despite the chart, I thought as of the 2001 model year the E engine was 185 HP. At least in the US. Perhaps other markets had different specifications?

As others said, I am pretty sure all 2001 models have the 185hp B235E engine. I think the only difference with the 170hp engine is the ECU with different programming. Same engine with same GT17 low-pressure turbo.
