2008 9-3 SS door locks

I have had previous problems with the front driver's side door lock, but have had no problems for the last few years now after replacing it for the third time. The problem now is the front passenger's door lock and the driver's side rear door lock. They fail one at a time and at times together. This is the first time I have had problems with these locks. They follow no pattern. The warmer the weather in the past 2 months the more lock problems I have noted. So, I ordered the locks. This past Saturday I had the 9-3 washed at an automatic car wash. All locks have worked perfectly since that time. Did the car wash do something or is this random chance? I thought I would wait a little bit before I replaced the locks. In the past once the driver's front lock started failing it was just a matter of time until it failed completely. Should I treat the other locks just the same and replace them now?

I also have problems with my door locks. I just replaced driver rear not too long ago... Now its failing again. Really frustrating!

The problem with power door locks run by body control modules is determining what is electrical and what is mechanical without taking the door apart. When the auto lock starts locking and unlocking all doors while driving you can be pretty sure the problem is electrical, when only one lock gives you trouble you assume the problem is in the door and you are usually right. When several doors appear to act up at the same time it could be several individual locks all failing mechanically at approximately the same time, or it could be electrical. The most common mechanical failure is sticky latch caused by silt or road salt as the window wipes get old and water eventually gets in. For that the best cheap fix is hosing down the latch mechanism with WD40. Knowing exactly where to apply the juice saves on the WD, but putting on the red tube and hosing down everything you can reach through the latch opening until it drips doesn't hurt anything and usually cleans up the sticky mechanical cause without taking the door apart.

I ordered and paid for the rear door lock, #12759695. But, what I received was #12803479 which costs $20 more. I was not charged extra for this part.


When I asked about the difference in number, I was told this is the new part number. 12803479 had been listed for the 9-3 for 2004-2005. The actual part also looks different than part #12759695 for the 9-3s from 2005 to 2011. I was told this part had been tested by Orio and works for my 2008 9-3 SS. Both part numbers are listed as active and available in the US. Anyone have any experience with part # 12803479? Saabpartscounter.com lists #12803479 replacing #12759695.

My front passenger door lock # 12759692 was/is listed by Orio as on backorder. And, I thought I would wait, but eEuroparts listed only 1 in stock which I ordered. So, if Orio lists a part on back order in the US and Sweden, then eEuroparts which has a separate warehouse is worth checking. They update their stock in real time similar to eSaabparts updating the Orio stock in the US in real time.

Door locks worked for two weeks, but now both are failing on an irregular pattern. I have made an appointment to have both locks replaced by my Saab Service Center.

Door locks replaced and working. Saab Service Center charge for 2 hours each door lock replacement was $500. I supplied the parts.

Probably a bit more expensive than you hoped for but at least it was done right and there is warranty on the repair.
