    2006 9-5 2.3t tensioner noise/rattle

My 9-5’s serpentine belt was severely worn, had a noisy idler and the tensioner bounced like crazy.
Bought a new belt, tensioner and idler and the tensioner still makes the same noise.
I spun all the accessories by hand and they all rotated smoothly. Has anyone encountered this?
The only issue I can find that may be contributing to the noise is a bad battery, it levels off at about 11.7v, I have 14.2v when running but maybe I’m over working the alternator with too much of a load?

On another note, I picked up a super nice, one owner 99’ 9-5 SE last Friday, it wasn’t running and had been sitting a few years with a suspected bad fuel pump. A fuel tank clean out and a new fuel pump later the car runs amazing!!!! Needs tires from sitting, the hvac blower is Locked up and a coolant flush but wow, what a nice car, the V6 is really smooth, Original window sticker 37,800$ every service record from 0 to 131,000 miles!! Pretty pumped about this one.

Have you set the tension correctly in accordance with WIS? If not that may be the problem.

I haven't looked at the WIS, I don't have a computer that will run it, however, with a spring loaded tensioner is there any adjustment?

If I unload the tension with the car running the noise disappears, it already had the shorter belt set-up, maybe I should go back to the long belt with the extra idler?

If unloading the tension stops the noise it suggests to me that you have too much tension, that is where WIS comes in, it will tell you what the tension should be. I bought a Windows 10 tablet cheaply specifically to run WIS and EPC, it was money well spent under £100 and I can have it where I need it.

The tensioner on the 2006 9-5 isn't adjustable as far as I know.

Did you get good quality parts? The cheaper Made in China stuff may be a little bit noisier.

You may be right Frank but if he can back it off that does imply some form of adjustment. I'll find time to look at WIS later.

I am using a long 1/2” drive extension on the tensioner when it is running to make the noise go away but being spring loaded, it goes right back to its original spot. The tensioner has a boss on it that gets located into the head or block and then it’s bolted, no adjustment anywhere that I can see.

    It's step 7 in the tutorial. http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=712

I think I remember mine was making a bit more noise after I replaced the pulleys on mine. I don't think there is anything to worry about. Changing to the long belt with extra center pulley may quiet it down a bit.
