Possible 2005 9-5 Aero purchase
I'm looking into buying a 2005 9-5 Aero wagon as my next commuter/family car. It won't be the sole family mover, I have a 2004 Volvo xc90 for that.
I've been reading posts here and on SaabCentral to get info on the 9-5. I come from a VW background. I had many VW's and modified most of them.
I'd just like some more opinions on what people think of the 9-5 in general and what to look out for
I looked at the car already and I'm planning on going back to drive it. It seemed pretty clean. I didn't see any rust, even underneath look good. I believe it was previously in North Carolina until 2014. That's when the current owner bought it.
There were some broken interior pieces, but I'd expect that from a 14 year old car that probably had kids inside at some point. The rear AC vent is broken and the automatic shift gate cover is missing/broken. The wheels have some curbing and there are a few body dings/dents, but nothing major. Under the hood there is some JB Weld on the PCV piping and more on the shift linkage. I'm not sure why and I'm going to ask next time I see the car. I found replacement parts and they are not that expensive.
I feel that if this car drive good then I'll buy it. The seller is asking $2500, I might go in at $2200. This will give me another $1000 in my kitty for possible repairs.
Thanks for the input.

It sounds like it is in good shape. 130K miles is not bad at all and should have a lot of life left in it.
You'll obviously can save a lot of money when you can do repairs and service yourself.

Not sure if you have seen this Buyers Guide thread: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=693
Good luck with the test drive!

Thanks for all of that. It will be nice to have some direction when doing repairs.
I ran a CarFax and found that the car was in two accidents. They must have been minor because I didn't see anything when looking at the car. I'll look a little closer next time.
I also found out the car was serviced by a Saab dealer in North Carolina and in New Jersey. I might reach out to these dealers to see if I can get any more info.

That car is magnificent. I'm very happy with the 9-5 vector 2.3t. As Nordwulf says, I should do a lot of miles, it's a tough engine

If a 14-year old car that was driven less than 10K miles per year still looks good, it was probably taken care of and perhaps may have spent most of its life in a garage. I bought a 9-5 from NJ from before and it showed more rust and felt worse than several other 9-5 I have owned. Salt and bad roads are the worst enemy of any car.
Just make sure to take it for a longer test drive, listen to the engine, crawl under it to check for any excessive leaks and just use common sense like it is any other car.
