sid problems
hi I'm a newbie to the group and saab,
I got me a saab last year 93 se turbo soft top [year 2000] I'm losing pixels on my sid display
I got a replacement from the breakers yard ,,looks new but says sid2 on the label also extra buttons ..its the same size
as the sid1 my question is , is it compatible?? and if so is it a straight swop or do I need a tech 2 to set it up???
many thanx,
pete

As you write, "marriage" with Tech2 is required. Options would be: saabdisplayrepairs.co.uk and sidmaster.co.uk.
Good luck - any way.

As far as I know, the earlier SID up to 2001 and later SID 2002 and up are not compatible.

I'm happy to see you made it, to my surprise without the Tech2 and even with the extra functions, the latter was my concern as I didn't think the two SIDs were compatible

the repairs online are for crap.
have it reman or get the ribbon.

try either. doing it yourself is a headache and never comes out right.

Here’s my apparent issue with the SID ribbon replacement. The housing is labeled “SID 2” but the original ribbon sure looks like a SID 1, according to all the pictures I’ve looked at. Is that unusual?

Never mind- found my answer. Some ‘99s have a SID 2 label but use a SID 1 ribbon.
