Impressions on the automatic gearbox

Hello guys! Im new here and are looking to buy a Saab 2.3t aero (automatic gearbox) from 06 with 260bhp. Im used to drive manual and dont know anything about the 5 speed auto. My question is:
Does it make car slow if i want to accelerate?

If i move it to manual does it gear down when i accelerate or does it stay in the gear i want?

My concern is that you dont feel that it has the 260bhp? Hope that someone can help!:-)

From my experience from saabs with either paddle shifters or the lever shift (paddle shifters used for manual on steering wheel rather than the auto shift stick were used between 03 to 05 I think) it definitely does not slow you down, but it's definitely not a manual car it has a built in software in to the ecu to make sure you DO NOT DAMAGE your transmission but will for th most part let you shift down or up when ever you need/want

I should've also asked what kind car do you have now and are you doing a trans swap?

Hello and thanks for the answer! Right now im driving a Alfa Romeo 155 and i have another 156, im in the proces of a turbo conversion on it.
But i need a comfortable daily driver and i was unsure if the automatic gearbox would make the car slower than if it was a manual:-)
