Saab 2006 9-3 SportCombi left headlight stuck on
Hello all,
I have a 2006 9-3 SportCombi with the left headlight stuck on. It will not turn off even with the key removed. The only way to shut it off is to pull the fuse or disconnect the battery.
Just purchased this car a few weeks ago and the left headlight was not working. Determined it was a bad ballast and replaced the ballast. Now it won't turn off! I removed the entire left side headlight assembly and swapped it with the right side assembly to see if it was the assembly or something else. When I plugged in the right side assembly to to left side, it came on and wouldn't turn off. The left side assembly worked normally when plugged into the right side. So it seems the assembly is not the problem.
Anyone have a clue what is causing this?
Is there a headlight relay in the 2006 9-3 SportCombi?
Do the 2006 9-3 and 2006 9-3 SportCombi have the same setup internally?
Thank you for your help.

Silly as it may sound, the headlights are individually controlled by the computer that is part of the engine compartment fuse box AKA the UEC and you need a Tech 2 and a PC with TIS software to reprogram, or replace this little sucker if needed.
You will be needing some help with this and suggest you ask your neighbors and if you don't find a Factory trained Saab mechanic living a couple of houses away, make a new posting Help Needed Cleveland.

Thank you for your very helpful reply. I believe I have a faulty UEC. Do you know where I can purchase one of these?

Thanks, I was able to find a replacement part. Is the Tech2 necessary or can I just swap out the old UEC for the new one?

This thing is part of the system and it needs to be married to the car and that means Tech 2 programing. A new unit needs to be programed and the odds of getting a used unit that is in perfect harmony with your cars system are so slim, that if you slap it in and it works trouble free buy one lottery ticket, luck is with you.

The search engine wasn't particularly helpful. There are no 9-5 convertibles.

Is there something that causes a UEC to go bad? Curious why my old one might have failed and if the new one will be ok. Thanks.
