Coolant and possibly bad cap!
Couple weeks ago low coolant light came on, unscrewed the cap and the cap was very hard to get off and the portion that goes down inside reservoir broke away from cap and had to pull out with pliers. I added coolant and put the piece that broke and cap back on right as I could and figured I should look into new cap at some point. Fast forward to last couple days and coolant low keeps coming on and coolant is coming out from somewhere which I believe is the overflow hose. Could a bad cap cause these issues? I have one ordered and should be here by Friday. I don't believe there are any cracks in the seams of reservoir. So cap or possibly the sensor that attaches to bottom maybe? Any input would be appreciated. There is definitely coolant coming out so it's not a bad or corroded sensor that I am reading about.

Yes, a bad cap can do that. When a cap goes bad it either doesn't let coolant move in or out of the expansion tank like it should.

Well topped of tank and put new cap on. Wife came home from 30min drive and I let car sit for a few. checked under hood and i could see coolant coming out of overflow hose. There is not other spots leaking all the hoses on top and going to firewall area are dry, What do I look for next? New tank?

Ok so I did a pressure test on system and pumped to 20lbs. Lost about 2lbs over 45 mins. got down to 18lbs and stayed there for another 30mins. Dont really know what that means but possibly no leaks? I have smelled the exhaust and it does not smell sweet in any way and no moisture coming from exhaust. dont know why there is coolant still leaking out the overflow hose? My next step I guess would be to buy kit to check if exhaust gasses are mixing with coolant.

Ok the leaking from overflow has almost basically stopped. The low coolant light keeps coming on but I haven't added any since the overflow started leaking and the car has not over heated and temp gauge pegs at the middle like clock work. So I believe I have overfilled since I added Everytime the coolant low came on. Guess I am in need of new reservoir.
