    2004 Saab 9-3 Aero Convert

    Red face Tire size recommendations

Advantages/ disadvantages to switching from 225/45-R17 to 225/50-R17. (Please redirect if topic has been covered in detail elsewhere)
    Car: 2004 9-3 Aero Convertible.

Probable tire: Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Pilot 3+

Why? Would prefer softer and quieter ride.
    Known disadvantage: Speedo error.

So has anyone been down this road before?
Did you notice positive/ negative difference if you made this switch.

NOTE: My preference is to stay with what Saab engineers recommend, however, would make exception if this will not harm handling in some miserable way. Right, won't be quite as quick to turn, but I'm willing to give that up, but not at the sake of unintended consequences.

Working from home (but not every minute.)

I choose to go with Blizzaks year round for the quiet ride and the great traction they provide. However, they do require replacing more often.

Instead of increasing the tire size + .9", you could consider going with 16" and increase the sidewall height without increasing the overall tire size.

16" wheels on my 9-5 Aero were much more comfortable than the standard 17" size.

More info about recommended tire size for the 9-3 here: http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?t=34740

If 50 profile fits and doesn't rub on anything, I would run them... would fill the guards nicely and a bit quieter... use the gps to know your exact speed
