    Engine light illuminated, P1444

2003 9-5 V6 sedan, got a good deal on another 9-5 knowing it needed some work, this engine code has me scratching my head. From what I’ve gathered on internet searches it is ground fault to the open close valve at the fuel tank, the valve works when I apply 12v to it, I read that pin 37 of the ecu controls this, it is a brown/white wire and a black/green at the connector under the car, I found pin 37 and it to is brown white so there should be continuity of it is indeed the same wire. There is not any continuity when I checked it and neither of the two pins on the plug under the car have any type of ground. Does anyone have a screen shot of this wiring by chance? Most likely the wires are broken somewhere but I have no idea where they go into the cabin or where the ground comes from. I do not have a computer that will run the WIS software. Any help is greatly appreciated, the car is ready to go but it won’t pass inspection if the light is on. TIA

    Jesse

You might try WIS on-line https://saabwisonline.com

Thank you!!!!!! I’ll keep you posted on the findings, some of the way the harness is ty-wrapped has me suspicious of broken wires.

Finally!!!! No more code, had no continuity between the brown and white wire at the evap purge plug that goes to pin 37 of the ecu, what a wiring mess under the dash, no wonder there was an issue, very poorly routed/secured from the factory. Also, the connection under the hood just next to the master cylinder was heavily corroded as well, that wasn’t the issue, I ran a new wire instead of taking the car apart to try to find out where the wire broke, it’s an old car and the fix will for sure last for whatever life is left of the car, now, fingers crossed it can through the rest of the monitors without the light coming on for a different reason.

As someone who made a living as an avionics specialist I can tell you that Saab wiring is way above the general automotive standard. The problem is that few owners appreciate that high standard and have no idea how to go about maintaining it when doing any electrical work on their cars.
