    Sharpie Chisel Tip

The driver's side black plastic window switches on my 2008 9-3 wear and show the white plastic underneath with time. I have been using a black marker to restore them. In the 9-3 the light is such that I can't tell that they have been touched up. If I use a flashlight I can see a difference in the two black colors. Since I don't drive my 9-3 looking at the inside with a flashlight, I never notice the difference in the colors. The shape of the Sharpie chisel tip is ideal for this touch up. The touch up usually lasts a few months. The chisel tip I just bought should last me years. I have never replaced these window switches and after my touch up today they look like new with me just sitting in the 9-3. Thought you would want to know.

My daily cleaning of the window switches with 70% Isopropyl alcohol wipes exposed the white plastic again. So, I reapplied the black Sharpie permanent marker with 3 quick flicks. Job done. Except for Covid I usually do not clean with isopropyl alcohol.

Wiping of the steering wheel with alcohol based cleaners is risky and likely will have poor outcome in any car over time.

I agree with Dave. It's probably better to sanitize your hands before you get into your vehicle than using alcohol based disinfectants on leather and plastics.

Good point. I use leather wipes for the steering wheel after the alcohol. The plastic does not seem to be a problem including the Saab key. The Sharpie ink did come off faster than I thought it should have come off after the alcohol use.
