Possible mirror faults
Hi all,
The ‘02 Aero has the Auto dim interior mirror fitted and plugged in. It also has the Passenger drop switch on the drivers door.
None of it works as its designed to. Previous owner did state that they had replaced both Drivers doors, so the switch may not work if not factory fit. The Drivers mirror doesn’t have the wide angle lens on it either, so I think it’s a cheap glass. The Auto dim mirror should work but I have no idea where the fuse may be. I do have my spare which I fitted to the old ‘98 SE while on Holiday in France one year, but I can’t remember if I cut the plugs.
What I am asking is should I be looking elsewhere for a problem and do the mirrors have a separate fuse for Auto Dim?
According to Vin check, the car has electric outer mirrors with memory, and manual dimming. Interior mirror is Auto dimming.More things change. The more they stay the same.

If the car had memory mirrors it may also have had the mirror drop function from new, you will need to confirm that the mirrors fitted are actually memory mirrors. I thought that factory auto dimming was across all the mirrors but if the build spec says otherwise who am I to argue. Irrespective auto dimming exterior mirror glasses are almost impossible to find but standard ones with heaters are available.
The wiring diagrams are in WIS and I would encourage you to download a copy, go to the Administration board and read What is WIS and why do I need it for an explanation and a link.

According to Vin checker, Mirrors with memory, Drivers with wide angle glass.
The issue I have is that the previous owner has said both drivers doors replaced, yet he didn’t change the lock barrel, what else is missing? The glass certainly isn’t wide angle on drivers, it is on passenger though.
When I had my ‘98 SE, it had wide angle on both mirrors.
I’ll have to rave out my copy of WIS, see if any of the older computers run.
Anywhere specifically I need to look?More things change. The more they stay the same.
