Thanks for the kind words and all your work and support for SaabWorld through the years Dave!
Setting up the site and seeing it grow through the years was fun, challenging, sometimes frustrating but often very rewarding. Starting new forums is difficult especially when you're not the first one for a car brand. But I think we all made a difference and created a friendly community with many knowledgeable and supportive members. We have seen people come and go but their content and contribution tot he site still helps new members repairing and maintaining their Saabs.
The blog section with a lot of articles, press releases, advertising, videos, images and other original media content should be preserved as long as possible. The original articles section still has some great content as well. I still have a lot of original images and press releases stored locally and perhaps will add that to the site some day.
Unfortunately I have been without a Saab for a few years now but hope to get another one as a second car in the future. A 900 or 9-3 convertible always has been high on my list and hopefully will get one some day.
As long as SaabWorld can support itself by its modest advertising income, it will continue to live on hopefully for many years to come. Thanks to everybody who contributed to the site!

First things first - Congratulations on Saabworld's 10th anniversary !
I just can agree that all of the contributors did a great job keeping our
Saabs going and reaching a helping hand by supplying precious detail or
expert knowledge - guys, you are awesome !
I have to admit that my Saab history is quite limited. My grease monkey
turned my into a Saabist after 40 years of nothing but hydropneumatic
Citroens in autumn 2018. At that time, some day we decided to take a look
at three 95s on sale. This one won...
Needless to say it's a 2001 95 station waggon :-)
The car had just a single previous owner and a ridiculous amount of km on
the odo - something around 75k. On top, it was imported from Japan. It was
registered in Tokyo, where people have to prove they have a garage before
they at all can register a car... so the grease monkey put the car on his
hoist to have a look at its bottom and commented: "The guy must have run
the car in his living room only !" No signs of dirt - all like new. Same
scenario inside the engine bay.
The only shortcoming was the old audio system - replaced it with a Pioneer
z810dab ( see http://saabworld.net/showthread.php?...ll=1#post76875 )
A perfect companion in connection with the mobile sitting in the glove box,
"Siri, call wife"... "Siri, open garage door" etc.
Hint: If you are going to install a DAB radio in your Saab 95 as well...
DO NOT use an antenna glued to the front screen. The CAN bus is not shielded
good enough (harness below right front door) and interferes with particular DAB
frequencies. You need to install a suitable antenna on the roof (decoupling
of interfering source).

Looking forward to the next ten years on Saabworld !
Cheers

I have accepted the fact that I'll never have a Saab as a daily driver in the future. I need some level of reliability and a 15-30 year old car cannot compete. There can be a Saab for weekend use, though!
Everyone is different but I lean towards two models, a 900 (classic) and a 9-3 (SS). After all, those were the cars that I had. A 900 might be better as a weekend car but a 9-3 better as a daily driver due to air bags and traction control. A 900 is less dependent on a dealer Tech II but tire choice (195/60R15) is becoming limited. Goodyear still makes them but Pirelli, Continental, and Michelin either don't or have very limited selection. Some of the advantages of the 900 were relative advantages in its era. Front wheel drive was good when there wasn't traction control and snow tires weren't quite as good. On the other hand, a 9-3 has better safety with front air bags and side curtain airbags. Tragic accidents can occur. If one drives only 25 times a year and 20 of those times it's only for 10-15 mile trip, the chance of a deadly collision are low.
So that's my mileage calculation. 22 trips of 10-15 miles per year (using the car every other week) and 3 trips of 120 miles. That's 700 miles per year. Maybe make it 1000 miles per year.Last edited by Dave T; 30 July 2020 at 23:48.

Hmm... What sort of reliability are you talking of here ?
I haven't had a single issue with my 2001 9-5 since I purchased it about 2 years ago with ~47k miles on the odo.
Did ~19k miles in the meantime.
I do use the 9-5 daily, say commuting to work, running errands etc and for trips to friends living up to 700 miles away.
Not a single problem so far (better knock on wood :-) .
Reliability at its best I'd tend to say.
Regards !
Michel
