Subframe lowered and Steering shaft won't clear opening on refit - Need Advice
This week I've replaced the high pressure steering hose on my '06 wagon. To get access to the rack, I followed the WiS and disconnected the steering shaft to column to allow the rear of the subframe to be dropped enough to get access to the banjo bolt on the rack. As part of the process I loosened the front subframe bolts and removed the centre and rear bolts completely as well as the torsion bar links (as well as exhaust, etc.....).
Not a fun job, but pretty straightforward - just time consuming
Now that I'm ready to reinstall I find that the subframe seems to have moved rearwards enough that the steering shaft is unable to fit through the opening in the frame. If I try to jack the subframe back into position, the steering shaft won't clear the opening. It may be due to the angle of the subframe, but the front bolts remain in place, but loosened close to the end of their travel, so I can't figure out how it cleared OK in the lowering process and won't just return the same way.
Suggestions welcomed
