    I have another suggestion, but it will take some time. You need to ensure that neither of the databus wires goes to earth but to do that you need the control units disconnected to avoid damaging them. It sounds as though something is pulling one or both of them down and effectively switching off communication beyond that point. It is likely to be a box of some sort.
