While replacing the thermostat on my 07 9-5 2.3t this weekend, I removed the air intake pipe for better access and noticed a grimy build-up around the by-pass charge and noticed an oil film (clean) in the pipe from the turbo. I also have noticed that it appears that I have oil coming up the oil fill pipe as there seems to be oil coating the ring around the fill pipe that dip stick cap meets when inserted. I had to replace the tube from the turbo to the oil trap last year when I broke it trying to remove it (the one with the check valve in it). I've added a pic for clarification. Any suggestions as to what this indicates or what I should look for as a culprit? Is this an indication of possible doom? It seems to run fine. This is not my engine by the way. Just a stock pic used for illustration.

How many miles on the car? The turbos on these 2.3T engines usually last a long time but eventually the seals may go bad. But that usually shows up as oil in the intake tube and smoke from the exhaust.
But it is a 15 year old car and I never had a 9-5 of that age.

Just about to turn 159K. I don't notice smoke in the exhaust though. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

Sounds as though the crank case is being pressurised, worth checking the vacuum hoses and NRVs for blockages. Also check the bypass valve doesn't leak.

Geoff I had trouble getting the tube I replaced fitted on the oil trap side. If that side is not properly set, I suppose there could be a leak there. If that is the case, would that be cause for pressurizing the crankcase or act in a manner of a blockage? A leaky by-pass valve is a possibility. I will check the vacuum connections.
