2-din HU in Saab 9-3 SS 2003-2005 Is it real? Yes! Little "how to" inside

As you know, 2003-2005 SS is no place for 2din headunit. I'll tell you how to find this place.

So, take out control unit and sealed all with paper tape, nail extruded into the adhesive tape border molded into a dash lining (this is important!)

    Remove climate control unit

Take it apart. We need an external part

Plastic in the interior painted completely stupid paint that peels off. More precisely colored a fool without a primer, at once perfectly good black plastic. This paint must be removed, removed it is very easy-cloth soaked in solvent 646.

to seal holes in the button tape

Set the panel of climate to a new location

and begin to cling to the free space on a cold steel

While the clay dries, you can do other things for a couple of hours. (I had during this time sounddeadening floor compartment and the rear shelf )

Stored patience, sandpaper of various grits and free time. Getting wildly grinding new panel to the desired shape and smoothness
ALWAYS Use personal protective equipment! Grinding spreads very fine dust, which is very harmful!

Periodically tries panel in place and consider how and where to grind

    And then tries-grind-grind-tries ...

Then, calming nerves and trembling hands, paint it.

Paint it tentatively to see all the defects and flaws grinding that you will never see eye not armed and did not feel his hands. This primer or paint highlights all this.

After eliminating defects, again gruntuem and then paint (I painted a dull black paint)

One more try on the place ..

We put in place, connect and check for availability, as well as admire the look

defects still could not be avoided, but they are not significant and unobtrusive. Especially since I'm not a painter, and finally can not study this anywhere else

    continued tomorrow (probably )

    and we continue
New head unit will take place climate control unit and the OEM CD drive. To do this, take out CD-drive with the OEM amplifier for the speakers in the dashboard and the rear shelf.

Amplifier disassembled completely, we need only circuit board . The resulting charge is wrap it duct tape and hide in the depths of dashboard

then disassemble the CD and wrapped duct tape and also hiding in the dash (of course not forgetting to plug it)

The control unit , too, hidden in a dashboard. Find it

Now for create of the frame. It will be based on the frame of the new unit. Establishes a new head unit on the place (I have not photographed it, unfortunately. But everything is easy)

And we are doing everything exactly technology as in the transfer unit climate
    Cover

Take the shape and sand or otherwise attempt The Million once
