This really iritates me. GM decided to kill Saturn, Saab, and Pontiac after giving them brilliant new platforms and global market products and just cool futures, to keep Buick alive. BUICK!?!?!? Are you f'ing kidding me?! I would like to have been in that board room meeting to illuminate how stupid these people are and how selling buicks with trunks full of cocaine wouldn't improve sales or quality of a old dying brand thats has done NOTHING over their entire history as an automaker. GNX's being the highlight of their illustrious history, which is like saying "Hey, we ruined turbocharging by improving your grandmother's sedan."
Now there are still similar models offered by different makes to compete against each other for the same market under the same parent corp. but now, no G8, Sky, 9-3 Sport Combi, Aero, Astra, GTO, and other cars americans were soon to love.

I don't fault GM for keeping Buick because it has a very strong name in the People's Republic of China and moderately useful name in the U.S. In the 1920's, Buick was what BMW and Mercedes are today. Then in the late 1930's, there was World War II and the Communist takeover of mainland China so there were no new cars. People there still remember the great reputation of Buick. That is why looking at the long term is very important.

I do fault GM for not keep Saab. Ford should have kept Volvo. Car brand names are very difficult to build. GM may think Cadillac is a strong name but it is mostly strong in the U.S. and in only parts of the U.S. Saab wasn't the strongest name brand but it was better than what GM has.

I do think that perhaps GM should have kept either Saturn, Pontiac, or Oldsmobile, just one of them. Hummer might have been useful to keep and just sell them as a Cadillac sub-brand, perhaps even as one model for now.

I got a real kick out of this because everything about it except the tie-downs is true about my 2005 Linear model.



And it IS a joy to drive. I've taken to disabling Night Panel on the highways. Just me, the speedometer, and the road. Also some tunes.
