Why The Different Tire Sizes on Aero XWD?

I still can't figure our why they went with the sizes used. Why didn't they just use the 235/45/17 vs. the 225/50/17 "H" rated tire, not V or Z?

And the optional tire, 235/45/18, I don't think is the same diameter as the 225/50/17 so how do they get away with that?

Did your car came with the 225/50/17 tires? The Saab USA website listed P235/50R17-98V for the 2.0T XWD and Aero XWD as standard sizes. And the optional P235/45R18-98Y have the same diameter as the stock tires.

    That must be a mistake.

The standard tire for the 09' Aero is 225/50/17 and optional is the 235/45/18. In 08', when XWD was optional and the 255 hp. was standard, it came with the 235/45/17. I believe the 10' XWD as well come with the 225/50/17. The Turbo X 18" wheels and 235/45/18 are optional on all models it appears.

you can see the tire equivalences on this page: Tire Size calculator, table

225/50R17 is for more comfort in ride.

in my Aero I have tires 235/45/17 94W and I am thinking to replace with 225/50/17 94W for more drive comfort but not sure yet.
for the ITV must fulfill the following steps:
    - Load Rate the same or more.
    - outside diameter with a tolerance of + / - 3 percent.
    - Code of speed rating or above. (In the case of M + S tires allowed a lower level).
    - The profile is the mounting rim for the tire.
odometer must be calibrated for a wheel with Diameter total :657 mm. (+2.06 %)?
some other software factors may be involved in malfunction like MPG, fuel gauge meter, ABS, TCS, .....the wheel sensor read 15 pulses per lap in a specified distance. if this distance in a lap is more then the odometer must be calibrated otherwise...........?
