If uncertain as to whether the car has handsfree provision, carry out a check. Use a torch to shine through the microphone grille. There are two different roof antennas. One with the telephone antenna (Europe only) and one without (dummy). This antenna is not used for radio reception. Those antennas are integrated in the rear windows.

A couple of addenda to this, for the benefit of the non-expert:

    i) when disconnecting the rear roof light, note which way round the single wires to the two single plugs go
ii) everything just pulls apart (with care) but to remove the two clips in the roof, first turn them through 90 degrees
iii) to remove the dog guard sockets over the side windows, use a small screwdriver to release the two plastic pins and pull them right out

    - I didn't find it necessary to undo the top of both C-pillar trims - YMMV

Mine is a MY 2000 with the dummy antenna (and also some cat bite marls on it!) and no microphones, hence no hands free kit. I was wondering what was that antenna as I have neither satnav nor handsfree. Odd.

FYI... If you have factory installed navi in your 9-5 the gps antenna is mounted on a bracket on the back of the MIU.

    Hi
Can anyone confirm if this shark fin antenna mounts with just a single hole - what diameter? - and can I mount another aftermarket antenna in its place? I have a Blaupunkt single DIN head unit with DAB and I have the matching antenna.
    Thanks Dave

Confirm single hole - but it's square! About 10mm, IIRC. Almost ashy aftermarket antenna should do, even if you have to ensure a watertight seal with a dab of silicone.

I don't have On-Star in my car so the 'shark tooth' roof antenna is not functional. The covering on it is in bad shape. Anyone else have this problem? Someone had tried to patch it with a rubber spray of some kind. It looks only marginally better. Question - what is the part number for a replacement?
Question - is there such a thing as putting a flat plug instead of the tooth (since it doesn't function).

@Pbuck1: they ALL do this, Sir.
Not SAAB specific and were fitted to lots of different models. Loads of them available, from loads of people, on a well-known auction site - you only need a 'dummy' one, with no internals - just search for 'shark's fin aerial'.
DON'T try to plug it because it will probably leak, definitely look naff and undoubtedly affect the resale value (however small).
