The Kent-Moore DT-47653 is a complete dipstick assembly, I’m looking for the Gauge Rod which is used on the later gearboxes which don’t have dipsticks
    Thanks anyway

Not to mention $68 for a dipstick is a bit excessive.. I haven't seen them for sale anywhere. Perhaps your only option is to make one yourself with a couple or pieces of plastic. White tie-wraps may work.

Here's a strange one... I did a drain and fill of my tranny, and got the usual ~3 1/2 quarts of fluid out of it. I was only able to put 2 1/2 quarts back in. When the car gets hot, the transmission fluid will shoot up out of the ATF dipstick with some force. I redid the drain and fill, got 2 1/2 quarts out and put 2 1/2 quarts back in. ATF was still shooting up the dipstick! I took a syringe and some plastic tubing and sucked out enough ATF that the reading was at the very bottom of the dipstick when cold, and it still wants to spooge when the engine gets hot.

I'm also seeing some very slight thick blue leakage from the bottom of the tranny case. (ATF pressure blew the seal?)

FYI, I used Dex VI based on the recommendation of a mechanic.

    Any thoughts?

The ATF Saab specifies for the 2002+ auto transmissions is Saab 3309, Mobil 3309 (or the same Toyota IV). I am not familiar with Dexron VI and if it is the cause of the problem. It seems rather unlikely but you never know. Either way, I would stick with the recommended ATF instead of Dexron VI. Saab only recommends mineral-based ATF for the Gen1 9-5 and synthetics shouldn't be used.

Mobil DEXRON-VI ATF is a high performance, synthetic blend formulation that meets or exceeds the stringent requirements of GM's DEXRON-VI specification and provides warranty protection for 2006 and newer GM vehicles. It also provides improved performance in older GM vehicles, wherever DEXRON is specified.

    Hey Frank,

Would you say Mobil 3309 would work for a 2001 9-5 SE? Both it and the Dexron III are mineral-based so not sure it that would be a problem. My mechanic wants ~$150 to change the TF.

    Thanks

Check out the first post of this thread. Up to 2001 is the 4-speed transmission and that one needs Dexron III. It's probably less expensive than 3309 as well.

$150 for a ATF change? Is he/she going to flush the system or drain/fill a few times?

He said flush the system. Backing up, I guess as a non-expert in ATF, would the 3309 cause any problems instead of the Dexron III? I happen to have a case of the 3309 and since it's also mineral based do you see any issues?
