Sad Rpiereck, because I lived around the corner from a gal who had a 900 2 door notch in her drive. Over on another forum "road", they were getting all mooneyed and gushy about the notchbacks and since those folks are pretty local to me relatively speaking, I stopped by and got the "skinny" on the car. The gal's brother lived in "The City" and just kind of left it in her drive, she wanted it gone and he was willing to let it go for a song. He said it ran well but the muffler fell of and was in the trunk. They were always going to "make it over after work next Friday", but needless to say they never did nor did they have the decency to call her or him (they had the numbers), and tell them. It's a shame because it only had a tad of rust and was a black exterior with a charcoal interior. Did a drive by a few months ago and it was gone,

What it a royal bitch here in New Jersey is that it is no longer legal to keep a car in your driveway unless it has proper registration, plates, insurance and inspection. The only exception is for an antique and that has to have "QQ" antique plates, registration and insurance .. "QQs" don't have to go through inspection. Gone are the days when a kid could buy a car, like 900's Mustang and play shade tree mechanic till it gets going.

One thing about the paint on the old 900's was that you may not have spent the money on clear with the base models but they sure gave you a lot of paint. One like that just may rub out. With my red 900 when I got done with the annual compound and wax, it looked like a murder scene with all of the red rags in the driveway.

There was another thread about old Saab ads. It got me to think "when did you start to like Saabs?"

In the early days of the Saab 92 and, later, the very prolific 96, I don't think I would have wanted a Saab. It was a yellow 2 door Saab 99 EMS that got me to like the car. The Saab 900 was even better. From then, I like most Saabs. The 9-7X and 9-4X are probably not for me but if I wanted a SUV, that would be a possibility. So for me, the Saab 99 EMS was the turning point, particularly the rear seat armrest, which was an indentation of the interior side wall. Very good use of space!

I learned something from both videos. Watch it closely, there will be a test after.

It's not "Northern Ireland", it's The North of Ireland.

    Oh! Is my Irish showing?

I got a game piece when buying a tube of sealant at Autozone. After entering the number in the website, looks like I won! The last time I won something was about 15 years ago when I won a plastic cup. According to the fine print, there are 1,000 winners out of 1,175,000. Winning with odds of 1,175 is good!

Germany is an interesting country for many reasons. It is seen as a county of state of the art technology, but which at the same time keeps many old traditions alive. This was what I saw today. I stopped on the side of the road for a phone call, heard a lot of bleating. Past a small grassy hill I saw hundreds of sheep grazing:

Up a ways was the shepherd. I talked to him a bit in my crummy German, he is a professional shepherd and herds at least 400 sheep almost every day, under sun or rain, in snow or lightning. He has two dogs to help him, and he spends his whole day walking up and down the hills with a staff. Such an old fashioned way to make a living, and he tells me he's the only one for a few dozen miles.

Like the handmade cuckoo clocks and all the farmers in Lederhosen, this guy is another one of those German rural traditions that are kept alive, and make this country more interesting for that!

I read the rules on my winning ticket and see that one can enter as often as once a day. Yesterday, I was within a block of an Autozone so I got another ticket. I checked it yesterday.

A winner, again! Another $10 gift card won. Since the odds are 1,175 and I won twice, I have beaten 1:2,350 odds. I feel lucky!

The store clerk gave me two tickets. I just checked the other ticket today. It is not a winner so I know that not all game pieces are winners.

EDIT (January 1, 2013): I read the rules. The odds are not 1:2,350. I might be lucky but not that lucky.

There are 1,000 $10 gift cards awarded each week. Rather than pick a certain serial number to be the winner, Autozone is secretly picking 1,000 times during the week, such as December 31st at 7:35 a.m. The first person to enter a number after that time is the winner. Therefore, maybe there is less competition at 4 a.m. and easier to win. For example, if the secret time is 4:00 a.m., there might not be any entries submitted for 15 minutes. However is the secret time is 8:00 p.m., the winner might have to submit their game piece by 8:01 p.m. to win.
