Soon it will be May. Early May was when I got my 2005 Saab 9-3 in Trollhattan. Too bad that is no longer possible.

Nordwulf also got his Saab in Trollhattan in May, but I think it was about 53 weeks later (1 year and 1 week later). For both of our deliveries, we went to the hotel and found it closed on Sunday. A recurring error by the US office.

The car dealer in Gothenburg that accepted the cars for redelivery to the US is still around but they are in a different location. Their showroom was remodeled into a small shopping center. The man who accepted the cars said there used to be "hundreds" of European deliveries but by 2005, he said there were very few.

I haven't looked up the exact date but around this time in 2005, I was arriving in Trollhattan to get my new car.

Last night, I was thinking of returning to Trollhattan within the next 5 years. I was thinking about where to visit besides Trollhattan, Gothenburg, and maybe Tanenshede. One idea is west to Halden, Norway. Another idea is Linkoping, where the air force museum is located and where Saab used to make the 340 airliner and then to Stockholm. I've been to Linkoping but not Stockholm. Daydreaming...see old places or add some new places, like Stockholm.

The ANA Saab dealer building in Trollhattan now sells BMW and MINI. Google Maps street view still shows a 2010 view of the Saab factory with the Saab name.

After I picked up my Saab 9-3 at Saab ANA in 2006, I drove to Oslo and on to Bergen. The coast with all the fjords in Norway makes for an awesome road trip. My dream is to drive all the way to the North Cape some day. European Delivery with Volvo is an option, I really like the XC60 and XC90 but unfortunately a bit out of my budget.

From Bergen to Nordkapp along the coast is about 2300 km = 1430 miles. That's a good road trip. One week of car rental with pickup in Oslo and dropoff in Tromso in June is $1,500. Ouch..!

I have been to Sweden twice now but haven't been to Stockholm either. Another city on my list to visit soon. I did visit Trollhattan last ime a few years ago and stayed at Ronnum Manor. Lots of good (and few bad) memories, wish you could still have a European Delivery of a new Saab. Perhaps you could buy a used Saab in Sweden and ship it back to the USA yourself? Paperwork, shipping, insurance and everything else may be too much of a hassle.

Buying a Saab and shipping it back is possible under certain conditions. Federalizing it is not practical except for the billionaire. One is exempted if the car is at least 25 years old. In Canada, a car is exempted if at least 15 years old. Registering a car in Canada if you are not a permanent resident or citizen is very difficult in British Columbia but I don't know about other provinces. One loophole might (not sure) be if you form a corporation and the corporation registers the car in Canada.

    So for 2019, 25 years old = 1994, 15 years old = 2004.
