Soon it will be May. Early May was when I got my 2005 Saab 9-3 in Trollhattan. Too bad that is no longer possible.
Nordwulf also got his Saab in Trollhattan in May, but I think it was about 53 weeks later (1 year and 1 week later). For both of our deliveries, we went to the hotel and found it closed on Sunday. A recurring error by the US office.
The car dealer in Gothenburg that accepted the cars for redelivery to the US is still around but they are in a different location. Their showroom was remodeled into a small shopping center. The man who accepted the cars said there used to be "hundreds" of European deliveries but by 2005, he said there were very few.

I haven't looked up the exact date but around this time in 2005, I was arriving in Trollhattan to get my new car.
Last night, I was thinking of returning to Trollhattan within the next 5 years. I was thinking about where to visit besides Trollhattan, Gothenburg, and maybe Tanenshede. One idea is west to Halden, Norway. Another idea is Linkoping, where the air force museum is located and where Saab used to make the 340 airliner and then to Stockholm. I've been to Linkoping but not Stockholm. Daydreaming...see old places or add some new places, like Stockholm.
The ANA Saab dealer building in Trollhattan now sells BMW and MINI. Google Maps street view still shows a 2010 view of the Saab factory with the Saab name.

After I picked up my Saab 9-3 at Saab ANA in 2006, I drove to Oslo and on to Bergen. The coast with all the fjords in Norway makes for an awesome road trip. My dream is to drive all the way to the North Cape some day. European Delivery with Volvo is an option, I really like the XC60 and XC90 but unfortunately a bit out of my budget.
From Bergen to Nordkapp along the coast is about 2300 km = 1430 miles. That's a good road trip. One week of car rental with pickup in Oslo and dropoff in Tromso in June is $1,500. Ouch..!
I have been to Sweden twice now but haven't been to Stockholm either. Another city on my list to visit soon. I did visit Trollhattan last ime a few years ago and stayed at Ronnum Manor. Lots of good (and few bad) memories, wish you could still have a European Delivery of a new Saab. Perhaps you could buy a used Saab in Sweden and ship it back to the USA yourself? Paperwork, shipping, insurance and everything else may be too much of a hassle.

Buying a Saab and shipping it back is possible under certain conditions. Federalizing it is not practical except for the billionaire. One is exempted if the car is at least 25 years old. In Canada, a car is exempted if at least 15 years old. Registering a car in Canada if you are not a permanent resident or citizen is very difficult in British Columbia but I don't know about other provinces. One loophole might (not sure) be if you form a corporation and the corporation registers the car in Canada.
So for 2019, 25 years old = 1994, 15 years old = 2004.

Wow, over two years since I've last checked in.
VW ended up buying back my TDI for ~$3,000 less than I paid for it, despite owning it for 2 years and putting 60,000 miles on it. I replaced it with a Subaru Outback... it's a lovely car, but man, what a mistake. I'm bored out of my mind. First car I've manged to put 30,000 miles on without a single issue though.
Still have the Triumph. That's been running great. Did a 2,000 mile trip on it last year and had fun. Was hoping for another this year but a job change made it unrealistic. Hopefully next year. The Honda is currently awaiting paint, then I'll put it back together and probably sell it. I'd like the garage space to fill an itch I've been having for something classic.
Hope everyone is doing well.Free SaabWorld Stickers

Nice to see you back here Mike. I considered an Outback when looking for a bit more off-road worthy vehicle than my 9-5 Aero but decided on getting a Toyota 4Runner instead. While it is not exciting to drive, it is a unique kind of vehicle with a large dedicated community similar to Saab. Fuel mileage is actually pretty decent at 20+ mpg and it pretty much can handle any mud/sand/snow I throw at it.
The 4.0L engine and the 5-speed auto are old but proven technology. I drove a Nissan Altima for a rental car for 2 weeks and could not get used to that CVT. Yawn... It was a comfortable highway cruiser though.

I've been averaging about 27 mpg over the life of the car so far, which is pretty impressive given the size and full-time AWD. On long highway stretches I can get around 33 or 34. The downside of all of it is an anemic naturally aspirated 4-cylinder. The interior is comfortable and well designed, and it's got an infotainment system that is easy to use and works well. I just wish I sprung for the 6-cylinder, but as typical, it was only available on higher trims and that was a bit more than I wanted to spend.
I got a set of Hakkapeliittas for the winter and it is a tank. So, during the winter I find it isn't quite as boring. Though, the inability to fully turn off stability control and traction control means parking lot donuts are less fun that they could be.
The Street Triple gets a lot more use to bring some fun back. I'm averaging about 6,000 miles a year on it. Wish I could do more, but I don't like riding in salt, and once it starts getting above 80°F, I don't like showing up to work all sweaty and smelling the rest of the day.Free SaabWorld Stickers

Had three weeks in SA with a Ford Kuga - not really what I wanted but hey-ho and then two weeks in MT, USA in a Ford Edge - we don't get the petrol versions here but that I could get used to.
Never could work out the fuel consumption - but thank goodness it was soooo cheap!
NG is all tucked up for the winter and the OG estate just gets more work (if it's too big for the V40 - which is much of what we have to dump!)
Once the SAABs are past their due date what are people moving to?
