I like these because they just look reliable and unassuming. But there still is a certain understated style that makes it very cool. The wagon would be my choice.

The 740 is another one of my favorites.

I don't agree with the title of this thread though because I understand perfectly fine why you would want many of these cars in this thread....! Awesome thread, it is nice to look at other cars besides Saabs, no matter how much we like them. Keep 'em coming.

    I have one of these:

It's not that bad of a car at all. Works for most commuting and gets 52+ mpg.

When Volvo's stopped being boxy I stopped loving them. (Still like them, but they just aren't Volvo's anymore) I think the last Volvo-looking Volvo was the S70.

The late actor and great racer Paul Newman loved his Volvo wagon. He noticed that when driving around CT and New England he was just another banana in the bunch in a Volvo. However the racer in him came out. When his car started to get up in miles but still (like my 1998 out in the drive), looked pretty good and all, he had his mech put in a modded Mustang 5.0 that put out gobs of power.

They actually started selling them as a package so if you are up there and hear a 5.0 rumble coming from a wagon ?? Suspension mods and all, it was said to be a hell of a car.

Time to bring this thread back again and keep the dream alive. I have the urge to get a VW EuroVan....

This camper version would be awesome. Too bad they don't really sell new affordable small campers in the US. I am thinking of converting a minivan..

Me too. Being in Germany there are plenty of Trabants, Wartburgs and the odd Lada in good shape for sale for a few thousand Euros. Sometimes I get a hair brained urge to buy me one of those. There is a museum in Calau that is selling a bunch of museum quality Wartburgs for 1500 Euro each right now!

Also small Italian cars appeal to me, as I learned to drive in one.

I like the Honda Element with four wheel drive. I know the styling isn't the prettiest but that's not what this vehicle is about. And it is still better looking than an Aztek. I really love the huge interior, the way the rear seats fold out of the way for cargo, the rubberized floor that's great for mud, and I really , really like the odd sunroof over the "trunk" area on the four wheel drive versions. That sunroof seems oddly positioned since it is over the cargo area, but you can take the glass piece off and stand there, with the upper torso sticking over the roof of the vehicle. That makes the vehicle an excellent platform for wildlife photography. Add Honda's reliability to the mix and this is a very appealing vehicle. I almost bought one instead of my Saab 900 back in Alaska. I'd be a member of Honda World instead of Saab World, had I done that...
