    Work bench

I have been using some shelving units and the floor to work on stuff for the last 2 years. Can't take it anymore! I need something for general automotive and motorcycle work and things for around the house.

Any recommendations for a good work bench? I am thinking of about 60-72"x24-30" (150-180cm x 60-75cm) work surface. Quality should be good so it will last for a long time.

There are some with peg boards. Are these usable for hanging and organizing tools? Anything else you can recommend? What about work surface material? Wood (solid or particle board) or other?

There are many choices when you search online. Too many!

One day our neighbors were getting rid of some really nice kitchen cabinets with solid wood butcher block tops (3 inches thick). Told my dad, and we went and picked them up off their front lawn. We cut the tops, and arranged them on the back wall. Now there is a good deal of storage, and a nice solid top to work on. If there is any spills on it, not a big deal either. Big heavy things gouge it up a bit, but my dad just sands it down if it bothers us enough, or fills it with wood putty. So I recommend a wood (solid, much tougher) top (it won't scratch anything either).

Check out this site... prices seem a bit steep on some things, but should give you some good ideas.

Built my own with the help of my dad. Just some 2X4s, 1/2" plywood, and a lot of screws.

That I like. Basic, custom and affordable. Seems pretty easy to do as well, looking at these instructions.

Anyone else have any pictures to share of their setup?

It wasn't too hard. Each level is built in two sections. The backs are screwed into the wall so it is very sturdy and permanent.
If I can find my camera cable I will upload a few photos I took during the construction.

Now I just need an old 2.0 Turbo on there to wrench on!
