Greetings, and thanks to all who posted their experience. I am wondering for all who added the aftermarket double-din units, dod you lose any functionality of any of the SAAb 9-5 electrical/electronic components. Including things like seatbelt reminder chimes, remote locking, day time running lights, SID functions etc. I am considering having the pioneer AVH-P1400DVD unit installed by a pro shop. He is telling me that none of my original functions will be affected. I just wanted to know before I do this.
Thanks
JW

I've lost the shift down function on the paddles.

OK, I'm having a big problem.
I removed the F700BT from the 05 and brought it and the 04 to a professional installer.
The issue I am having is that the radio works just fine, navigation works fine, bluetooth / phone work fine ... but as soon as I switch to iPod, SD, aux-in, or CD, I lose all audio, including system sounds.
In looking at Frank's original installation, I notice that he uses the RCA outputs ... this guy used what I believe are the direct speaker outputs.
The audio output of the radio is much louder than normal ... and I've noticed that when I plug the iPod in, the volume seems to jump to 30 or so ...
I used to listen to the volume up to 40 ... right now, the loudest I can stand is 20.
On the plus side, I managed to get the steering wheel controls connected thanks to Frank's instructions!
Any thoughts?
I spent 13 hours driving to SOC12 yesterday listening to FM only ... and hitting BSM every 5 minutes hoping to find something I could stand.
Driving home under the same conditions ... not my idea of an ideal driving trip!

Did they use the exact same harnesses I fabricated? It should just be a matter of plug and play between different 9-5's. Including using the RCA pre-amp outpits from the head unit to go to the amp input in the car.
If they didn't, it sounds like they may have used the signal cable for a power antenna coming from the head unit for the amp-on wire in the car. So when you turn off the radio or switch to another audio source, the head unit uses that antenna power cable to incorrectly turn off the amp, resulting in no sound.

Ok .. couldn't wait until the morning.
Had to go investigate right away. You were right about the antenna wire ... it was wired in. I disconnected it and ALL sound died!
And no, I was too tired when I removed it from the 05, I didn't realize that part disconnected.
So, next step tomorrow ... get some wire and hook the connections to the headlight switch.
I'll post more details as I move forward.
Thanks very much Frank!!!President, The Saab Club of Canada

And make sure you connect the power amp cable from the head unit to the harness. Not much happens when the amp in the car doesn't get turned on. Wire number 9 in this post. http://saabworld.net/f29/double-din-...bt-84/#post311
Good luck and have fun at the convention.
