I bent out some of the tabs on the cage so that they rest against the stops in the dash. You can see this from the pictures I took and posted of the cage in the out-of-the-car dash that I used to make sure everything fits.
All 1998-2005 dashes are the same. As unclemiltie mentioned, there are a few ways to get it flush with the dash when using the Clarion cage. This was my solution in the 10th post of this thread.

I just went back and re read the entire thing. I guess I got caught up in finishing I did not mention to re read the last two sentences of the tutorial. Plus, I was unclear about why you taped those on until I ran into the problem myself.

It's is a great idea for a few reason. The look and flushness is one and the other is, like my setup, I am maxing out every feature of the deck(Sub, back up camera, outputs, GLI'S) so it I nice to have the extra room behind the deck.

Lets talk security, your frame is now a quarter to a half inch away from the dash. A little extra from for a burglar to grab onto and pull with less teeth to be bent into position to lock the frame in place to the dash. Did you use a bracket to secure the frame behind the dash or anything at all?

No, I didn't use anything else. The easier it is for a thief to get out, the less damage it will do to your dash. If they want it, they'll get it out. With a pry bar if they have to. If I were a thief, I would carry radio removal tools if I wanted to get a head unit out of dash quickly.

I didn't get the universal Clarion kit, but got one that's specific to the 9-5. UK eBay seller hooked me up. It was about $45 if I remember correctly, but it was worth it.

+1 I just ordered this last week. I'll take pictures when I get my stuff in. Want to color match the trim too.

I've bought the Pioneer AVH-24BT for my '99 Saab 9-5, as well as all the different odds and ends described in this post. The wiring harness that is included has a white rectangular plug in "the other end", for connecting it to the headunit. Do I cut the ISO contacts off the harness and connect it to the Metra harness instead? I got the harness with RCA plugs.

Quick question how are you guys bolting the headunit to the cage? How are you securing it in the car?

The head unit should just slide in and locks into place by itself.

The kit I bought has locking tabs that you attach to the head unit. Then you just slide it into the cage.
