The Swedish version based on the three door combi coupe. The build of the convertible was then decided to go on at Uusikaupunki's plant in the spring of -86. This all can be found in the book called "Katto pois" in english "Roof off". Written by the plant manager at Uusikaupunki's factory in the 80's and 90's. I like this one most: "...and there were photographers standing on the hoods of the Volvo cars taking photographs. It was wonderful." (What would I drive without Mr. Sinclair??? No Saab...) My father would be quite pleased to know that he's well remembered, and I think he always delighted in telling that story. Thanks so much, both for doing the interviews and for making them available. It's good to hear him again :)  VERY nice! My father would be quite pleased to know that he’s well remembered, and I think he always delighted in telling that story. Bringing Uncle Bob to any party would have been a no-brainer for GM/Saab.  I only met him once and spoke with him a few other times but he still casts a long shadow in my psyche. I was there when he told this story to the USA press at an introduction of the newest convertible in Santa Barbara by GM/Saab.  GM was smart enough to ask Bob to be part of the program and give a small presentation on the history of the convertible during the introduction. Bob had some old photos to show and of course great stories about how the Saab convertible came about.   Many of the press people were long time friends of Bob's so it was a real home run for GM, as Sinclair quotes appeared in all the motoring press about how the Saab convertible came about. I think I have some photos of that day.  Will try to dig them up for you. Dick Lague  SWADE,

Bob could always tell a great story!
