Jan Ake Jonsson leaves Saab after 38 years

I think it is safe to say everybody will miss Mr. Jonsson steering M/S Saab (turbocharged of course) through many interesting and demanding years.

    From TTELA:

Yesterday ended Jonsson official as chief executive of Saab Automobile. No permanent replacement is appointed, but Muller does so far more than the CEO post, while he continues as chairman.

GM didn't pull plug on Saab, production of 9-4X on schedule

It's good to hear Saabs are being manufactured as we speak. The contract-building of the Saab 9-4X is good for both Saab and GM.

a Saab spokesperson told Inside Line today that the ongoing financial maelstrom that led suppliers to suspend parts deliveries to Saab's assembly plant in Sweden did not shut down assembly of the 2012 9-4X at the GM plant in Mexico. GM wouldn't comment on the situation, but Saab's spokesperson confirmed that production of showroom-ready 9-4Xs at the Ramos Arizpe plant began last week, as scheduled.

Hawtai still wants to work with Saab

    From Automotive News:

Private Chinese automaker Hawtai Motor Group Co. still hopes to cooperate with Dutch sports car maker Spyker Cars NV, the owner of the Saab vehicle brand, despite Spyker's tentative deal with a leading Chinese car distributor, Pangda Automobile Trade Co.

"We have noticed media reports about the memorandum of understanding signed between Spyker, Saab and Pangda," Hawtai said in a statement on Tuesday. "Like before, we still have kept exchanging information with Spyker and Saab."

Why Chinese companies are wary of Saab

    From Automotive News China:

SHANGHAI -- Despite Spyker CEO Victor Muller's efforts to portray his Saab unit as a valuable prize worthy of Chinese investment, Chinese companies seem to be wary of a tie-up.

"I had a pretty good negotiating position. I positioned what I could sell as a stake in the last premium, independent European car company," said Muller, describing his effort to form an alliance with Chinese automaker Hawtai Motor Group Co.

But that was two weeks ago. Since then, Spyker Cars NV's deal with Hawtai has collapsed, and its distribution deal signed this week with China's Pangda Automobile Trade Co. is a memorandum of understanding, not a binding agreement.

Open letter from the Saab VPs to the Saab communities

Swade from Inside Saab sent out this memo to Saab enthusiast sites and we were more than happy to post it here on SaabWorld. The Saab Spirit remains strong!

We are a car company. Designing and building distinctive cars according to a well honed, Swedish philosophy is what we do. And yet our production line – the beating heart of our company - has been idle for the last five weeks.

Though no-one’s fault but our own, we found ourselves in a cashflow crisis and unable to buy the parts we need to build our cars. This has hurt our dealers, our suppliers, our employees and many of our customers, a situation for which we are truly sorry. We want nothing more than to secure our financial position so that we can get to building cars again.
